Kings of the Boyne. Written by Nicola Pierce Review by Ann Turnbull. I have to confess that before reading this story I knew nothing of the events it re-tells—but I decided to leave things that way and see if I could follow it. I’m pleased to report that I could and am now much better informed about the late 17 th century in Ireland. The Boyne Valley Mounds at Knowth and Newgrange were built around BC making them older than Stonehenge in England and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Built by Neolithic farming communities about years ago, the passage tombs have clear astronomical alignments such as the Winter Solstice Sunrise at Newgrange and the Spring and Autumn.

An ideal spot to experience the spirit of Old Eire is the Boyne River Valley, which offers a world-class concentration of historical and spiritual sites just an hour's drive north of Dublin. The most popular attraction there is the archaeological site of Brú na Bóinne, or, "dwelling place of the Boyne." Upon arrival, visitors get appointments.

"Kings of the Boyne" is a children's novel but, like Nicola's other books, is never dumbed-down. Some of the fighting is gruesome and written in a visual way. This is a book that adults will enjoy just as much a children will. An awesome read! Read more. Helpful. Comment Report s: 3. The booklet provides considerable historical detail on the Boyne River Valley, but also is laced with many of the author's assumptions "no doubt" being a favorite comment.

Except for the cover photograph, the booklet lacks good photographic documentation of the main passage graves and instead contains some line-drawings representing past events of the area/5(3).
